Allow chart customization at the metric level

What is the problem or goal the end user is trying to solve or accomplish?

The end users aim to have a more efficient and flexible way to customize their charts and dashboards according to their specific needs. Currently, they are facing limitations in differentiating between metrics within the same chart or dataset, and the only available workaround involves using mixed chart and thus executing the dataset query twice, which is inefficient and restrictive.

How are they solving it currently?

Presently, users are attempting to address this problem by using mixed charts, where they apply different customization settings to two queries (query A and query B). However, this solution is less than ideal as it involves running the dataset query twice, hindering efficiency and only allowing differentiation between two sets of metrics.

What is the recommended solution by the Customer?

To resolve this issue, the proposed solution is to allow users to customize their metrics on a per-metric basis within the 'Customize' section of the chart editing page. This would provide users with a user-friendly interface for creating multiple customization settings. The users should then be able to add different metrics to the different customization settings. A drag-and-drop functionality could make arranging metrics more intuitive. The ability to assign these settings to specific metrics would add greater flexibility and efficiency to chart creation, enabling users to extract more value and insights from their data. This solution would make the preset/superset tools more versatile and better suited to the diverse needs of the organization.
