What is the problem or goal you're trying to solve or accomplish?
Unrestricted Dimension Selection (Need Curated/Whitelisted List):
Current Behaviour: The Dynamic Group By control exposes every available dimension/column in the underlying dataset to the dashboard consumer.
Issue: Many raw dataset fields are internal IDs, technical metadata, or unformatted attributes not meant for general dashboard consumers. This leads to user confusion, clutter, and accidental performance degradation when high-cardinality technical keys are selected.
Goal: We need the ability for dashboard editors/creators to define a curated or whitelisted subset of dimensions available in the Dynamic Group By picker.
Column Insertion Position in Tables (Appends to Right vs. Prepends to Left):
Current Behaviour: When a user selects one or more dimensions via Dynamic Group By, the new dimension column is injected at the far right of the Table chart.
Issue: For tabular reporting, grouping dimensions naturally belong on the far left as row identifiers/hierarchies preceding metrics and aggregations. Having grouping keys append to the far right creates an unnatural scanning order and poor UX.
Goal: Dynamically added dimensions should automatically insert at the far left (as the first column(s)), or chart configuration should allow choosing default injection placement.
How are you solving it currently?
For Dimension Selection: We currently rely on distributing pre-filtered/saved links or providing external documentation instructing users which fields to select. Despite this, users still select uncurated fields, resulting in misconfigured tables and support overhead for our BI team.
For Column Positioning: Users must manually drag and reorder columns each time they apply a group-by dimension, which creates unnecessary friction for non-technical stakeholders.
What is your recommended solution?
Dimension Whitelist / Allowed List Configuration:
In the Dynamic Group By filter configuration modal (or native filter setup), add an "Allowed Dimensions" selection field so editors can restrict which columns appear in the dropdown.
Dimension Whitelist / Allowed List Configuration:
Provide a toggle in the Table chart's "Customize" panel (e.g., “Dynamic Group By Placement: Left vs. Right”).
