Interactive Pivot Table: option to hide the metric aggregation warning icon, and show it only when totals are actually affected

What is the problem or goal you're trying to solve or accomplish?

In 6.1, the Interactive Pivot Table shows a yellow warning icon next to some metric column headers. The tooltip says: "This metric's group and subtotal rows are computed in the database for the saved pivot layout. Rearranging the pivot live (for example on a dashboard) or applying a time comparison may leave them blank until the chart reloads."

The customer wants to remove this icon. It appears all the time on charts and dashboards, even when nobody has rearranged the pivot or applied a time comparison and the values shown are correct. Viewers read the icon as a sign that the data is wrong or that something is broken, which causes confusion and erodes trust in the dashboard.

Engineering confirmed that this is intentional in both 6.1-release and master. The icon depends on how the metric is defined, not on what it calculates:

  • Simple SUM, COUNT, MIN or MAX selected through the UI: no warning

  • Simple AVG, COUNT DISTINCT, and similar: warning

  • Custom SQL metrics, even a plain SUM(sales): warning

  • Saved dataset metrics: warning

The chart relies on structured aggregation metadata and does not parse SQL expressions. As a result, two metrics that are mathematically identical can show different warnings. For customers who rely on governed saved metrics or Custom SQL, this means the icon appears on most or all metric columns.

How are you solving it currently?

There is no chart control or setting that hides the icon. The only partial workaround is to rebuild Custom SQL or saved metrics that are simple SUM/COUNT/MIN/MAX as simple UI-defined metrics, which removes the icon for those columns.

  • This does not work for non-additive metrics such as AVG or COUNT DISTINCT.

  • It is often not acceptable when the customer uses saved dataset metrics as a governed, shared metric layer, because rebuilding them per chart duplicates the logic.

Otherwise, the customer has to live with the icon and explain it to their dashboard viewers.

What is your recommended solution?

The customer's request is to be able to remove or disable the warning icon on Interactive Pivot Table charts.

Engineering suggested two possible directions, which can be delivered separately or together:

  • Add a chart-level control (e.g., "Show aggregation warnings") so chart owners can hide the icon when they understand the limitation.

  • Make the warning contextual: show it only when a live pivot rearrangement or time comparison actually leaves group/subtotal rows unavailable, instead of displaying it permanently.
