What is the problem or goal you're trying to solve or accomplish?
The customer is migrating a cumulative build-up chart from Tableau, where each bar carries two printed numbers: the period increment below and the running total above, with a dashed trend line tracing the cumulative path. It is a finance-style progress view where both the contribution of each period and the total reached are read directly off the chart.
Preset's Waterfall chart reproduces the structure correctly — floating bars stacking on the prior cumulative value, the final total bar suppressible, increase/decrease colours configurable. Confirmed by reproduction in workspace 398005d1 (us1a) against the Vehicle Sales sample dataset at Week grain: Show value prints the increment only, and the running total is available exclusively in the hover tooltip (verified: Mon 14 → Increase 112k / Total 446k, matching the sum of the seven preceding increments). There is no option to print the total, and no trend-line overlay.
This matters for printed reports, exported images, and scheduled dashboard screenshots, where hover is not available at all.
How are you solving it currently?
In Tableau, using the Gantt Bar mark type on a numeric axis with a separate cumulative line.
In Preset, the two available paths each lose something:
Waterfall — correct structure, but the running total is hover-only
Mixed chart (bars for the increment, line for cumsum on a secondary axis) — prints both values, but bars anchor at zero instead of stacking, and the two independent scales make bar height and line position non-comparable. Also currently affected by a separately-filed x-axis label defect where date labels render as .738ms.
What is your recommended solution?
A label mode on the Waterfall chart allowing the value label to show the increment, the cumulative total, or both
Optionally, a toggle to overlay the cumulative total as a styled line across the bar tops
