What is the problem or goal the end user is trying to solve or accomplish?
The developer aims to leverage MetricFlow’s ability to perform joins using entities to streamline data modeling and metrics calculations and then sync to Preset via the API. However, the current lack of cross-dataset join support in Preset prevents the efficient utilization of this feature.
How are they solving it currently?
SQL Virtual datasets. This workaround defeats the purpose of MetricFlow (dbt semantic layer), as it does not utilize Metricflow entities for joins. Also, currently, Preset only supports sync from Metricflow for a single dataset.
What is the recommended solution by the Customer?
Extensive support for the dbt semantic layer (MetricFlow) and enable cross-dataset joins. This enhancement would allow users to fully leverage MetricFlow's capabilities and also ensure that metrics definition and calculations are version controlled as a result.
